Our Abalone Haliotis Asinina |
The most common species in the
Indo-Pacific waters is the ミミガイ ;
MIMIGAI ; Donkey's-ear abalone or
Haliotis Asinina- one of the fastest growing abalone(>40 mm/year) in the world. Haliotis Asinina is the first abalone to go
onto the dinner plate/soup bowl. Sometimes called ‘Sweet
Cocktail Abalone’ and are perfect for steamboat or soups. It is
much tastier than the cold water species found in Australia,
America, and South Africa and is the favorite species in Asia.
Fastest abalone on earth
Although the species did not grow as big as
its temperate equivalent, its still command a good price in the
international market. Haliotis Asinina
has a smaller
shell compared to other temperate species, but the meat size can
be 6 to 7 times the size of the shell. Its continued occurrence will
therefore be of great benefit to the coastal fishing communities
where they are found.
